Socrates Angelides
Socrates (UK) joined MSIAC on 1st of August 2024 as the TSO for Munitions Transport and Storage Safety.
Socrates graduated from Imperial College London in 2013 with a degree in Civil Engineering (MEng). Socrates also has a MRes in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment and a PhD in Engineering, both from the University of Cambridge. During his PhD Socrates investigated the blast resilience of glazed façades and was a visiting researcher at TU Delft.
From 2013 to 2016 Socrates worked as a Structural Engineer for DNV in London assessing offshore structures. From 2021 to 2023 Socrates was a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Research Associate at the University of Sheffield and the Steel Construction Institute (SCI), where he worked on the development of a fast-running software for predicting blast loads from the detonation of energetic materials (EMBlast). This tool was developed for the Energetic Materials Blast Information Group (EMBIG), a group that consists of multiple UK governmental organisations and blast consultancies. In 2023 Socrates joined the Steel Construction Institute (SCI) as a Principal Engineer, working on the development of industry guidance for process safety on hydrogen hazards for the Fire and Blast Information Group (FABIG) and continuing his work on EMBlast.
Socrates is a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
