L-061 Initiation and Materials Properties
January 2000
Dr Peter R. Lee (Project Manager) This paper links power dissipation in energetic materials to their shock and thermal initiation criteria and their propensity to crack under mechanical strain. Knowledge of such a link provides the means to determine absolute numerical values of shock sensitivity, thermal sensitiveness and explosiveness of charges and munitions. Such data would aid both testers and modellers to design representative small scale tests for general hazard and IM-ness and to ascribe go/no-go conditions to experimental tests and theoretical models of them.
